The volatile Caruso found his voluntary "hiatus " from tv stardom turned into a hellish hole he took quite awhile to climb out of. He left the hit series NYPD Blue after the first season (1994). He had enjoyed being a mini sex symbol of sorts on the series and assumed he could transfer that image to the big screen. That, of course. didn't happen and his huge ego took quite a beating because of it. He made two films before returning on a much smaller scale and without any hoopla to tv in 1997 in the short-lived Michael Hays series. From then until 2002, he found roles hard to come by, and took supporting roles in some films and starring roles in a couple of low budget films. In 2002, of course, he found success again in CSI:Miami. NYPD Blue cast was said to not be sorry to see him leave, especially when he predicted the series would fail without him. It continued to be a huge success. He's said to have a "difficult " personality and is nobody's favorite to work with. Let's hope he's learned from his experiences and keeps his ego in check.
